One source has the unlikely date of birth as 10 Jan 1757; that same source has his death on 9 Jul 1839.59 Another source has him born in 1760.58 Said to be the first Ashbaugh to live in either Armstrong or Westmoreland Counties.89 Was in Hempfield Twp Westmoreland Co by time of 1790 census, which reports his household as having one male under 16 (son John) and two females (wife plus dau. Elizabeth).126 In 1800 census he was in Franklin Twp Westmoreland Co., and I don't find him in the 1810 or 1820 census.
There are some who believe this Adam Ashbaugh to be John Adam Ashbaugh, a descendant of a Frederick Eschbach, different from our Johann Henrich Eschbach. If these are correct, Frederick would have been 50 years old when this child was born. Traditions that I have received from both descendants of Johann and descendants of the Steiner families list this Adam as a descendant of Johann Henrich and so he is included here with the realization that this information is in dispute and the listed descendants may not belong to the Johann Henrich Eschbach family. There are some however who claim the Frederick is the brother of Johann Heinrich and if so he may be related in some other fashion.58 |
