He was a farmer by occupation, and by industry and careful management was enabled to provide his family with everything necessary for their comfort. He married Anna Wentzel, daughter of John and Susanna Wentzel, of Hempfield township. Their children were: 1. Susanna, married A.M. Zundel; 2. Adam, deceased; 3. Margaret, married R.M. McCreery; 4. John P., of whom further; 5. Mary, married Jacob Hines; 6. Jacob, deceased; 7. Anna C., deceased; 8. Peter, resident of Hempfield township, a carpenter by trade; 9. Esther, married Robert M. Steel; 10. Sarah, married O.F. Henry; 11. Elizabeth; 12. Alice, married John Rohrbacker. Sarah and Elizabeth were twins and both are deceased.16 Peter Baughman, grandfather, who resided for many years near Grapevil1e, was married to Anna Catharine Wentzel, daughter of John and Lucinda Wentzel, of the vicinity of Middletown, Hempfield township. Peter Baughman was the father of the following children: Susanna (Mrs. Albert M. Zundel); Adam, deceased; Margaret (Mrs. R. M. McCreary); Mary (Mrs. Jacob Hines); Peter, deceased; Esther (Mrs. Robert Steel); Sarah (Mrs. Obadiah Henry); and Alice (Mrs. John Rohrbacker). Peter Baughman had a large acquaintance. When a young man he was employed on the Henry Welty farm near Greensburg. He helped to build the old court house in Greensburg, and was present at the Evans execution. He was a member of the Lutheran church, and a Democrat in politics. He had a cane mill, and made the molasses for the community for miles around. His home was the center of the social functions of the seasons, which consisted of corn-huskings, applebutter boilings, wood choppings and taffy-pullings.16 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
