| Notes for Joshua Knight |
Relationship of Joshua Knight as son of Jonathan Knight unconfirmed. In sketch of Alfred Edwards it states Joshua immigrated from England.67 Another source has him born in Lisbon, Conn.
[source], in sketch of William H Knight, states: "This branch of the Knight family in America, so far as in known, sprung from England, and the first record shows that Joshua Knight lived in Connecticut, was a farmer and shoemaker. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, won distinction for bravery and fidelity, and was promoted to lieutenant." In spite of this statement, he is not listed in 1966 DAR Patriot Index.
Joshua Knight moved to Chesterfield, Massachusetts, shortly after his marrige to Esther Wright in 1770. There he built a house in which he lived until his death in 1815. |
