| Notes for Derk Jan Ruesink [immigrant] - 6 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| His birth was recorded on 18 May 1826 with the Burgemeester of Dinxperlo, Jan Hendrik Schepers. Witnesses who signed the entry were Jacobus Bulsink (farmer, age 46) and Jan Hendrik Teeunsen (farmer, age 46). A photocopy of this record is in our files.59 Emigrated to America from house number 280 in De Heurne in May 1854. His brother Engelbart also emigrated, but later returned.10 There is a Didrich Ruesien who arrived in New York via Liverpool on the ship Adriatic 5 July 1854. He is recorded as being 48 (not 28) years old, a farmer from Holland, and destined for Ohio.40 Another source says there was a Dirk Jan Reusink on the ship Leila from Rotterdam that arrived at New York 30 Sep 1854 (need to confirm this).62 Dutch emigration records have D. Ruesink, age 28, departing Dinxperlo in 1854, destination Milwaukee. They also have M. Ruesink (probably Manus #801), age 33, departing Dinxperlo in 1854, destination Milwaukee. Both were single men, one a farmer, the other a farm laborer.63 There's a John Rusink, age 25, in Raisin Twp, Lenawee Co, in the 1860 census, working as a farm hand for John Fulton. If this is not our John, who could it be? Derk John Ruesink of Tecumseh purchased W 1/2 of E 1/2 of SW 1/4, Sec 34, T5S, R 3 E, Franklin Twp, paying $1600 for the 40 acres in March 1868. House was located on Kemp Road about 1/4 mile east of Tipton Hwy. He was admitted to U.S. citizenship at the circuit court of Lenawee County on December 16, 1880. R.P. Butrick and E.A. Wilson testified to his good character.64 1880 census: Census Place: Franklin, Lenawee, Michigan Source: FHL Film 1254591 National Archives Film T9-0591 Page 216A Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace D.
