| Notes for Janna (=Johanna) Smits |
| Wartena has her born Dec 1806.10 Said to be 23 years old when she married & 46 years old when she died, so the 1808 date is probably wrong.35 |
| Notes for Derk Jan (Spouse 1) |
Year of birth is given incorrectly as 1803 by V. Hofteizer.82 Date of death is given by R. Wartena as 32 (sic.) Feb 1875.10
The life of Derk Jan is a typical example of the life of a dayworker/laborer of that time. He and his wife Janna lived with his parents on the little farm "Pongelbuul" from time of marriage until 1831 when then went to Gendringen, but two years later they were back with his parents on Pongelbuul. Later they moved to a nearby house called "Dekenkremer", then in 1839 they again went to Gendringen (Wieken nr 144), and in 1843 to Dinxperlo, and later to Aalten (Lintelo 51a "Navisnieuwhuis"). On 16 Feb 1846 he moved with his family from Aalten to Dinxperlo nr. 143. About 1870 Derk Jan and his second wife Geeritjen Klompenhhouwer lived in Dinxperlo at number 73k--this is a house especially for poor people.39 |
