His Army serial number was 0-874439. Social security # 368-28-8658. Date of entrance to active service: 22 Apr 1942. Date of separation from active service: 31 Oct 1945 at Wilmington, Delaware. Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 6 Sep 1943 and to 1st Lieutenant on 9 Feb 1945. His report of separation says he was awarded the "European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal", and that he arrived in the Azores 7 Jun 1944 & arrived back in the U.S. 1 Sep 1945 for a total foreign service of 1 yr. 2 mo. 26 d.

Social Security has SS#368-28-8658 & last residence as Adrian, Lenawee Co., Mich.2 On August 15, 1982, Lewis & Erma transferred their membership from St. Johns Lutheran Church in Riga to West Adrian United Church of Christ.69

In December 1951 & January 1952 he drove the family to Texas in their 1949 Plymouth station wagon, to visit an Army friend in Refugio, the Army barracks hospital in Wichita Falls where Bill had been born in 1943, Brownsville, the Alamo, Corpus Christi beaches, and many other sights. In 1954 Lewis fell from a barn loft, breaking an arm and pulverizing his pelvis. He was in Ann Arbor (University Hospital) for many weeks.71 February 6 - 13, 1971, Lewis and Erma enjoyed a Caribbean cruise with several friends from First Federal S&L. Stops included Puerto Rico, St. Thomas & Haiti.
