He married MARIAH RUGLE January 03, 1787. Notes Lived in Shenandoah CO., VA and was a member of the Zion Luthern Church near Woodstock. He held various offices in this church. Mary his wife and three of their children died during the plague of bilious fever that struck the valley during the unusual Autumn of 1804. He left a will written in 1839. It listed seven children as heirs. He journeyed to Fairfield Co., Ohio where he purchased land for his son Balthes Foltz and he signed the deed in German. The story goes that he struck his whip to the ground near a spring and it grew into a willow tree. Mary Rugle may have been a daughter of "Johannes Rooghel" who came to Philadelphia from Germany on the ship Vernon in 1747. Will in Court House Records Woodstock, VA. Book Y Page 335.
