Introduction
Here's what we know about our Gust ancestors and their relatives. All of these families came from northern Germany (mostly Mecklenburg & Pomerania) to America between about 1870 and 1885 (except for two cousins who came much later--about 1914), settling first in either Chicago, Illinois, or Toledo, Ohio. Many of them later moved to Riga Township in Lenawee County, Michigan.

Most of the information presented here came from personal papers, newspaper clippings, birthday books, and family photos accumulated by Erma (Gust) Ruesink and now in my possession. Those sources were supplemented with data from several on-line sources.

For living people the records presented here contain only the person's initials, even though in most cases I do have their full name plus date and place of birth. In many cases I have date and place of marriage as well.

We welcome contacts from relatives, others working on these families, or anyone with corrections or additions to what appears here.
