Lehigh Co. was formed in 1812 from Northampton Co., and Carbon Co. was formed from Northampton Co. in 1843. Washington Twp. & Penn Twp. are adjacent.
Had Rev. War service: in 1778 he was a private in Capt. Conrad Ritter's Company, 3rd Battalion, Northampton Co. Militia. In 1780-82 he was in same company, 6th Battalion.
Heidleberg Church records show he married Elizabeth --, while Westmoreland Co. tradition has his wife as Sarah Brazil 88
Pennsylvania tax lists show him as property owner as early as 1781. On April 21, 1795, he bought 421 acres including a grist mill and saw mill on Mahoning Creek, Penn Twp, Carbon County. After residing there 6 years he sold it to Joseph and Benjamin Mathews (1 Jan 1802). On 20 Jun 1809, 176 acres of land in Westmoreland County were surveyed for him; he had previously moved there with his family. He lived about 8 miles north of Greensburg.88
Moved from Northumberland Co., Pa., to Westmoreland Co. together with the Braz Walton family. They took up 200 acres in what is today Franklin Twp., about a mile and a half north of Boquet. The Waltons and Bloses built a single log cabin and lived together at first. This source says he died in 1802 or 1803 in Westmoreland as his estate was inventoried there 16 March 1803.89 If that's correct, then the 176 acres mentioned above was for Daniel, Jr. |
