Sponsors at his baptism were his uncle Jacob Bender & wife Catherine.108 Another source has him born 16 Mar 1796.16 Tax rolls of Westmoreland Co have him as weaver only in 1826, and then intermittently through 1843--never later. Not certain that death date is correct, but his estate sold his farm in 1876.35 Earliest record in Westmoreland Co is late 1820. In July 1826, Jacob Bender bought 50-55 acres in Franklin Twp for $1,000.35 Still resided in that township in 1848.109
BENDER FAMILY. The pioneer ancestor of the Bender family in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, was Jacob Bender, a native of Adams county, Pennsylvania, born March 16, 1796, who purchased a farm southwest of Greensburg, whereon he resided and which he operated successfully until his death. His wife, Catherine (Bush) Bender, whom he married December 24, 1818, and who died February 10, 1854, aged fifty-seven years, bore him the following children: Isaac, July 6, 1820, mentioned hereinafter; Henry, June 14, 1822; David, April 8, 1824; Elizabeth, August 2, 1826, unmarried, resides in the vicinity of Irwin; Hannah Sarah, July 4, 1828; Catherine, October 19, 1830, wife of a Mr. Milliron; Solomon, December 7, 1832; Mary Ann, October 11, 1834, wife of Reuben Henry; and Benjamin, December 17, 1836, married Caroline Sunsil [sic], and resides near Greensburg.16 |
