| Misc. Notes |
Jacob came to America with his parents in 1805 as part of the Rappist movement. They lived at Harmonie, Penna., until 1815 when the family moved to New Harmony, Ind., where his mother died soon after arrival & his father died 4 years later. In 1825 John returned to Pennsylvania with the Rappists and settled at their new community known as Economy (at present day Ambridge, Pa.).37
In April 1832 there was a great schism in the Harmony Society at Economy, with about one-third of the members leaving the group and settling at Phillipsburgs (now Monaca), Penna., as followers of Count de Leon. The Zundels were part of the seceder group. In 1836 a Mormon Elder came to Phillipsburg and preached, and shortly thereafter Jacob converted to Mormonism and was himself ordained Elder at Kirtland, Ohio, soon thereafter. By 1839 he was living in a Mormon community in Far West, Missouri. But almost immediately the Mormons were forcefully expelled from Missouri.37
Next he and his wife & children lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, with the Mormon community there. Jacob worked on the Temple there and contimued to serve as an Elder in the church. In 1852 he & his family joined Captain David Wood's Company and set off for Utah in their covered wagon. They settled on a farm near Willard, Utah, where he lived the rest of his life.37 |
