| Baptismal certificate has her born in Blissfield and her name as Mathilde Auguste Marie Gust. Sponsors were Karl Micklei (her uncle), Auguste Gust (unknown person) and Marie Berndt.45 Her obituary says she was married 23 Dec 1910.23 On 2 Aug 1923 an item appeared in the Adrian Daily Telegram saying "Mrs. Elmer Smith was operated upon yesterday for removal of tonsils in her home in Riga Township. Mrs. Sam Smith is caring for her."35 Mailing address was Blissfield in 1911 & 1926 - 1935 and Riga 1947 - 1972.3 Was in Toledo Hospital in April 1924.10 Also, she must have been quite sick and away from home (perhaps in Chicago) for several weeks in early 1929, as her material contains several letters to her from her husband and son. On Jan. 23 a friend, Frances Rohrbach, wrote her in care of Tillie's brother's wife Emma Gust in Chicago Heights, saying "sure was surprized to hear you went and had another operation." In Dec 1929 her niece Marie Davis wrote wondering how she was doing and saying a Mrs. Booze said "you sure were nice and clean when the doctor finished operating on you, unless as the doctors say, it is the adhesions again."3 On 12 Jan 1937 she & her husband left "for an extended trip through California" with Mr. & Mrs. William Stebner.35 Mrs. Stebner was Tillie's first cousin. On 18 July 1963, at the age of 75, she was in a automobile accident that hospitalized her with "cuts to her right hand and rib injuries." The accident was caused by a 20 year old driver trying to pass as she was making a left turn.35 She lost one finger to these injuries and never drove again. She was in Bixby Hospital again in October 1972.3 Breast cancer surgery, probably (see death certificate). Was ill for about a year before her death.1 Cause of death (from death certificate): Generalized carcinomatosis (for 4 - 5 yrs), as a consequence of metastatic carcinoma of the breast.36 SS#374-26-1391, last residence Adrian, Michigan.11 Died of cancer.22 Funeral service at Tagsold Funeral Home.
