| Name written "Charles McKensie" in town birth records. Mother's name reported as "Molly."3 He left Vermont and traveled to Michigan in the spring of 1830, staying briefly in Tecumseh then moving to Adrian. His wife and children joined him there in 1833. The next year he moved his family to the town of Woodstock (which he himself named after the village in Vermont), although Charles was away most of the time at work in Adrian. In 1843 he moved the family back to Adrian, where he engaged in the brickmaking business.6 Sons Charles H and Joseph C had a brickyard and other businesses in Adrian. McKenzie Street in Adrian is named for Charles McKenzie. Another source has birth as 1 Jun 1800.2 In 1870 U.S. census taken June 27th8, his household is recorded in the 3rd Ward of Adrian as follows: -- Charles, age 70, brickmeker, born in Vermont; his father of foreign birth, but not his mother -- Ann, age 67, keeping house, born in Vermont, neither parent of foreign birth -- Joseph, age 36, brickmeker, born in Michigan -- Ellen, age 22, at home, born in Michigan | ||||||||||||||||||
