1860 census has him in Akron, Summit Co., Ohio, living in the household of J.H. (41 yrs) & Laura (33 yrs) Wagner; his grandfather Samuel Hawkins is in the same household. J.H. Walker is a mason--perhaps this is how S.D. McKenzie learned the trade.
