| William Grinder, son of Andrew and Catharine (Reed) Grinder, was born in 1844, in Armstrong county, and the same year was taken by his parents to Hyde Park, where he was educated and grew up on his father's farm. He followed agricultural pursuits until 1897 and in that year entered the mercantile business, which he has since prosecuted successfully, conducting a general store where the best goods can be procured at the most reasonable rates. He inherited the eastern half of his father's farm, consisting of one hundred and twenty-five acres which he cut up into lots. Some of these he sold to individuals, some to the Hyde Park Land Company and some to the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. He was one of the first stockholders in the steel mill at Hyde Park. Mr. Grinder married Sarah Charlotte Grinder, daughter of Andrew Grinder, and of the ten children born to them six survive: Olive, Frank C., Nellie G., Reed S., Raymond, and Harry.44 1880 census: Census Place: Allegheny, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania Source: FHL Film 1255203 National Archives Film T9-1203 Page 2C Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace William GRINDER Self M M W 35 PA Occ: Farmer Fa: PA Mo: PA Charlotte GRINDER Wife F M W 29 PA Fa: PA Mo: PA Flora GRINDER Dau F S W 9 PA Fa: PA Mo: PA Ida GRINDER Dau F S W 7 PA Fa: PA Mo: PA Charles GRINDER Son M S W 4 PA Fa: PA Mo: PA Austin GRINDER Son M S W 3 PA Fa: PA Mo: PA Olive GRINDER Dau F S W 5M PA Fa: PA Mo: PA14 | ||||||||||||||||||||
