| At his baptism his parents names are recorded as Friedrich & Litia Schott (In his index P. Ruff interprets this as equal to Frederick & Lydia Schatz), and the sponsors were Michael & Magthalena Bortz.41 Another source has birth as 4 Oct 1817 and death as 15 July 1898.71 And another has birth as 4 Oct 1820.26 The 1860 census has him 66 yrs old, making year of birth ca. 1794! Maybe this is a different Jacob?27 Tombstone says he "died July 13, 1898, aged 78 y. 10 m. & 4 d."13, making him born 9 Sep 1819, which agrees with the batism record. Middle initial comes from his wife's tombstone.
